Mixed Media Paintings

“All art begins with movement–the movement of a hand pulling a paintbrush across the canvas, and the movement of ideas in the artist’s mind.”  Robin Brooks

There is a physicality to making art. It starts with the body, moving the arm to move the paintbrush, pencil, or charcoal stick. This is a gallery of mixed media compositions in acrylic and collage on panel, paper, or canvas. I often begin by laying in some marks with soft vine charcoal. This drawing process, moving my hand across the surface, begins to suggest a direction for the painting. One mark or motion leads to the next. Sometimes my paintings reference elements from nature while at other times they are less referential, simply evoking movement, spaces, and various energetics–the abstract energy of the landscape as I see and feel it. This series is ongoing. RB 2022
