In this project I am exploring relationships with my biological and spiritual foremothers. They are both humble women and noted artists and change-makers whose lives have informed my own journey. My Foremothers collages often operate on the level of dreams. By repeating and juxtaposing elements and jumbling time and space, I create alternate dream-like worlds. As in poetry, the symbols and metaphors in my Foremothers collages are evocative. They ask for interpretation. You notice a seahorse swimming across the sky. A woman wearing a hat sits pondering something. A feather, repeating, floats downward. A butterfly’s emergent wing appears.
