Creative Connections at Haystack
Haystack Mountain School of Crafts has lived as a place in my imagination ever since my high school art teacher returned to school in the fall and regaled us with stories of this magical place nested on the rocky coast of Maine.
During Session Six at Haystack I was delighted to make the acquaintance of a sparkly duo, Enid and Alexandra, a mother and daughter who hailed from Berkeley, California. So, when Enid found out that I was planning a trip to California in November, she invited me to visit. And what a joy it was to spend time together in her Berkeley home! While we sipped her homemade chicken soup and nibbled on delicious rugelach pastries, we learned more about one another and what brought us both to Haystack.
Giant Trees of the California Coast
After visiting with Enid in Berkeley, I traveled on to Monterey to spend Thanksgiving with my son who is a student there. Wonderfully, we were able to visit the Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park which is outside of Santa Cruz and home to the legendary giant trees. I am in awe of these Majestic Beings.
Creative Connections: Artwalks and Holiday Art Fairs
This month I am participating in two community events. Artwalk Gardiner was held on December 1st and the Holiday Bazaar at Merrymeeting Adult Education is on for December 8th. While most of the time I prefer to hole up in my studio, I find it refreshing to bring my work out and share it with members of the public once or twice a year. By offering small works, framed and unframed, people can have a chance to see many aspects of my creative process. And I especially love connecting with young people who are just embarking on their creative adventures.
Tree Tees, Part Two
The Tree Tee” tee shirts that I designed at Haystack are still available to order through the Bonfire.com website. To date, I have raised over $760.00 for Wabanaki Reach, a non-profit serving the Wabanaki community. This QR code will take you to the Tree Tee order form.
All best wishes to you for the holiday season and the year ahead! ~ Robin
