Black and White

Space is all around us, defining distances and articulating the forms we recognize.  These collages are constructed using black paper glued to white paper which I cut and re-cut, and finally arrange and glue down.  They are usually made rapidly without too much reflection or second guessing, as a challenge to myself.  There is an element of random placement that happens spontaneously in the creation of each piece.  As I play with the placement of the paper elements, I work with the sense of space and movement.  You may see the ocean or the woods, but it is just paper, cut, arranged, and glued down.
