Tree of Life, 7 1/2″ x 7 1/8″, acrylic on paper, 2012

For the fourth consecutive year I will be participating in the 10×10 exhibit to support Arts Are Elementary, an organization that provides arts enrichment to children in the Brunswick Public Schools.   This one night event features a wide range of artwork created by local artists.  All work is displayed in 10″x10″ black frames. In addition to viewing the art, you can sample delicious finger foods and beverages donated by local businesses and restaurants.

My contribution to this year’s 10×10 is an acrylic painting, an abstract piece I call “Tree of Life.”  Not long ago, I visited the Portland Museum of Art to see an exhibit of Shaker artwork. In this exhibit were several Tree of Life paintings on display.  They were amazingly detailed, full of spiritual symbolism, and very different from my painting.   My tree evokes an autumnal mood and is related to a larger “tree” piece I completed this year.

The 10×10 is held at the Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick and Parish Hall at St. Paul’s Church next door.  All works are for sale for $200 of which half goes to Arts are Elementary and the other half to the artist.  10×10 is truly a community celebration of creativity and art.  Mark your calendar, and I look forward to seeing you there!
