August 14, 2007 - Making Meaning with Materials, a workshop with Robin Brooks
Agenda:
9:00-9:50 am Workshop Overview and Group Discussion
“A is For Apple ” An exercise in open-ended exploration and visual brainstorming using an apple as our provocation. We will work individually but come back together as a group to reflect on the experience. We will notice, in particular, how our prior knowledge and experiences about apples informed our work with the materials.
Materials: colored markers, pencils, collage, glue, fabric, magazines, etc.
9:50-10 am Short break
10:00- 11:00 Small Group Work Using tempera paint, collage, and mixed media, each group will bring together their work from the apple exploration to collaborate on a group mural that can extend our exploration of apples, trees, and nature.
Materials: paint, brushes, glue, scissors, large mural paper, mixed media materials (yarn, fabric, etc.)
11:00-11:30 Workshop Conclusion and Group Conversation: Where do we go from here? (Books and Resource list, Reggio-L listserv, NAREA (North American Reggio Emilia Alliance), etc.
