While monoprints can be filled with color, these monoprints use black etched ink. The Cezanna studies were done in the Parsons printing studio while I was in grad school. The book I used for reference only had black and white photographs of Cezanne's bathers - hence, my interpretation in tonality rather than color. The lilacs were from my garden. I enjoyed observing the luxurious flower clusters and foliage in my favorite green vase. In retrospect, I find it curious that despite my love of color, I chose to interpret these flowers in black and white.
